83' 245 Caster 200

I've read all the threads on caster issues- is the consensus that the most common cause of irregular Caster is damaged control arms or ball joints?
the joints are new- so tend to think a scan-tec control arm would be the easiest/least expensive first-try before bringing it to a frame shop- which was the tire shop's suggestion; glad I did some reading first.
Any other thoughts?

What are the alignment measurements? Can you get a print out? If the caster is out a small amount it could be the rear arm bushing. If it allows the arm to move side-to-side at that point then the arm is pivoting at the front mount and moving the bottom of the strut forward or backward.

if caster's a probem, the tires won't wear funny because of it. also. a COMPETENT alignment will be be able to tell where the caster problem is. IF it needs a control arm, get a used oe 1 from a junkyard. i wouldn't put a scantech part on a bicycle. all the arms re the same, 75-93. just change ball joints. good luck, chuck.

Sadly- my tire/alignment shop must not be competent, or I should have more discussion with them- because their answer would lead me to believe that it is a frame issue and not a control arm one- but I will ask them to specify. My thought regarding scan tec was the same- it's just a stamped piece of metal. Being in New England it would be unlikely to find one that wasn't very rusty used-

      "i wouldn't put a scantech part on a bicycle."

From the reports of those who have purchased them, this appears to be one of those parts that Scantech can't screw up (no rubber, electronics or bearings involved). A pristine junkyard OEM would still be preferable, but at least where I am many of those are rusted enough to have holes.
