Deposit on oil filler cap looks like mustard 200

The oil fill cap on my 240 has a deposit which looks like mustard. It's not solid, about the consistency of, well, mustard.

What is that stuff, and does it's presence mean anything?

It is condensation. Does your crankcase oil look like a chocolate milkshake ? If not, it will clear up once you get the engine (and the oil) up to operating temperature for an hour or so. It won't really hurt anything. Has it been cold there lately ?

If your oil looks like chocolate milk, you have a water leak into the crankcase.

Thanks riverbend. It has been cold here lately, and the car sat for a few days. Before that, it was used for some short trips. The right conditions to for condensation.

The crankcase oil does not look like chocolate milk. Happy day!
