1990 240 starting problem when cold 200 1990

When the temp drops to minus 10C or colder this 1990 240 has trouble starting. It will start immediately, then flood itself out after a couple of seconds. Then very difficult to start, if at all.

Sometimes can get it to start by holding pedal to the floor and cranking for considerable time.

Any ideas on where I should start looking? it gets lots of gas (plugs are wet when this happens).

Thanks in advance.

Later 240 models did away with the Cold Start Injector and left the ECU to manage the extra fuel through normal injectors.

Try disconnecting the CSI, if you have one, to reduce fuel input.

What OBD1 codes are you getting?

Robert I had a weak spark when it was very cold leading to intermittent starting. The problem turned out to be the 25A fuse on the driver fender. The fuse was OK but the holder was faulty. Sometimes it started, sometimes it didn't. Funny thing is it would start with the assistance of some starting fluid (dangerous stuff)
Replace the fuse holder with a watertight version that can found at any big box autoparts store.

At those temps, I would suspect weak spark or possible Fuel pressure regulator. Holding the peddle down draws more air. Not sure if this will apply to your 900.

From what your saying it sounds like its dumping fuel on a cold start. If your coolant temperature sensor is not reading properly it can cause that to happen. Just a thought.

I'll see if there is a loose connection or something. Is there any way to verify if it is working or not or does it just have to be changed out?
