Looking for a nice 245 200

I am looking for a replacement for Helga. Like a dummy, I let her get away from me. I'd love to trade a very nice 93 Mercedes e300 for one. Mercedes has 150K miles and all maintenance has been done. Engine harness and head gasket have been replaced. All maintenance is documented with invoices etc.

Uncle Stickbuilder,

You have options with some travel. (You mention delicious sushi in a recent trip to Tokyo or someplace in lovely Japan.)

Welp, you could take a look on the Portland craigslist for a Volvo 240 search at (http://portland.craigslist.org/search/sss?zoomToPosting=&query=volvo+240&catAbb=sss&srchType=A&minAsk=&maxAsk=)

There's a dealership that advertises repeatedly on 1710 SE Brooklyn Portland OR 97202. You also have a host of Volvo 240s in Portland. You may want to try the Seattle craigslist. The SFBay craigslist also has RWD Volvo 240s, yet the California, specifically NorCally-Bay Area Volvo 240s get some major miles on them and they always seem in need of something.

You could also search using Google, yet using Google to search a specif domain, like craigslist using a search field string as (Volvo 240 site:craigslist.org). Sometimes, if you allow your computer or mobile device to allow geolocation, Google may bring results close to your home.

Yeah, a 240 wagon is worth it. I'm replacing the about failed stupid Meyle strut mounts I stupidly installed nine months ago and maybe note even a few thousand miles of milk (buttermilk) runs. These things make URO/APA look good. The URO/APA lasted ten years and 40k miles.

With a solid suspension where all is good, proper, and right, I feel a the ride on a P245 kombi is better at highway speeds versus the P242 and P244. The extra 300-400 pound over and behind the rear axle with the heavier sprung springs do nicely. What I'm aiming for with my 1990 240 DL with the Volvo OEM strut mounts and two new made in Mexico Boge Turbo Gas / Sachs Super Touring from iPd.

I got these in contrast to the Bilstein Touring struts on my 1992 and I'm pleased with these. The Boge Turbo Gas / Sachs Super Touring gave me a whirl. They arrived in the box with not strap around them like you see on gas-charged struts and shocks. They were soft like warmed Brie cheese.

I called iPd, and they were like all ready to exchange them with the Bilstein Tourings. Yet I kept working the piston, pressing them both into the floor. Mr iPd guy returns after a short time away from the phone for an RMA, and voila! These Boge Turbo Gas / Sachs Super Touring (it says gas charged in the strut housing pressed into the metal), stiffened up like crazy. They resisted as much or about as much as the Bilstein Touring out of the box. Mr. iPd guy had said the Boge Turbo Gas / Sachs Super Touring needed loading (like you do with rubber bushes as the final suspension build step? no.). More like the Koni hydraulics that you barely work once or twice and voila! stiff.

So I'm going for the Boge Turbo Gas / Sachs Super Touring this trip. I got the factory gas charged strut Volvo OEM protective bellows you see on the de Carbon equipped Volvo 240 turbos. So I hope it all works. The left side gland nut took hours to loosen from my torque application nine months ago.

I'll report back on the Boge Turbo Gas / Sachs Super Touring sometime later.

Sorry to go on so.

Hope you find you next beloved Volvo 245 li'l Kombi as you like right quickly, goodly sir!

cheers,

Duffed 'Dud' MacDuffed

I've never had any personal experience with the Volvo shop at 1710 SE Brooklyn Portland OR 97202 (called Rich's Volvos Only), but I've only ever heard BAD things about that place.

Google the name, or search on Turbobricks.

RUN, don't walk away from anything sold at Rich's on 1710 SE Brooklyn. I have had personal experience and it parallels the negative reviews you'll find online.

I seriously doubt that I'll be going all the way to the PNW to buy a car. There are a lot of old Volvo Wagons in Florida and they don't have rust.

I'm hoping to score maybe one of those Florida wagons myself someday...white wagon with blue cloth interior in pristine condition is my dream! :)

I think Florida is one of the few places in the US that could successfully fade that blue into oblivion (or at least make it baby blue). AZ/NV and West Texas rounding out the list.

Good point....I guess I'll have to add window tint to the list! :) My 240 sedan came with the grey cloth interior and the rear deck and top of rear seats did take a fading hit as it was a TX car (though garaged so that definitely helped!) I've thought the Pacific NW cars do have advantage in that regard since they see a lot less direct sunlight

Yup, less sun fade on the paint and the interior. Plus they don't use salt on the roads anywhere on the West Coast. Other than the rain the PNW is a pretty good environment for an older car. I think a pretty good compromise between not too much sun and not too wet is Northern California. Very moderate climate....

Don't see why you would expect that on this board especially when you want rid of it to get a Volvo wagon for many of the reasons we love them, too?

Kinda seems like you should have expected it.

Most Florida Cars have 35% on all the windows. That keeps the sun fade and dash cracking at bay.

Try the iPd classifieds and the classified here on the brickboard. Turbobricks also has classifieds, yeah? Maybe check some of the Volvo 240 clubs for classifieds.

Hope you find one.

Luck.

cheers,

I remember when I read you sold Helga for a nice price. Frankly I was surprised.

Now that you are doing some whining it reminds me of the song by the "Magic Lanterns." It was in the late sixties. I have edited the song with a few words just for you.

Love was the game
Helga was my name
I thought you'd know wrong from right
But you ran to the Benz' arms tonight

Shame, shame
We had a good thing, baby
Shame, shame
She wont do you right baby

Shame, shame
She'll only break down
Shame Shame
I would have been around

Shame, shame
We had a good thing, baby
Shame, shame
She doesn't love you, baby

Shame, shame
She'll only break your heart
And leave you standing out in the rain
Shame, shame

Just copy and paste the below link in your browser for the actual song. The trio sounds so much better. Turn up the volume and Just imagine this tune coming through poor Helga's radio........Phil

No one is whining. I am simply looking for a car. I'd bet that a keyboard commando wouldn't say some of the crap you say face to face.

I wondered how long it would be for you to take offense and overreact to a fairly tongue-in-cheek comment. Seen some of your stuff on "Opinions".

Easy does it, friend - you'll live longer and happier.
