'Sticky' ignition key 200 1991

Hi All,
Over the last couple of days I have had an intermittent starting issue.

When I turn the key to start the car it is as if the key doesn't return when I release it and the starter remains engaged. It has only happened three times over probably a dozen starts.

So is it: Me? the ignition lock/switch? Or the starter?

I quickly turn the car off and restart and everything is normal

Thanks,

Rod

If you feel the "stick" in the key and it doesn't return, then it's the switch, not the starter. There is a return spring in there that may have failed or the switch tumbler itself is worn out or catching. I had the same issue on my PV and a new switch solved it.

Have you tried a graphite product? There is a powder and spray. Since this has an electrical component on the back end the powder might be best first.

If that does not work use a spray silicone that has a fast evaporating solvent and then go back with the graphite powder. The spray might remove gunk and spread the previous powder around, so its ends up a double whammy.

You can use it on all your locks on the car and about the home.

    Phil
