144 backfiring 140-160

We have put all new fuel injectors, refurbished gas tank, new plugs, rotor, cap and wires.
The car starts fine, idles rough and when accelerated it back fires.
Wondering if it is the timing. Is it anti clock wise or clockwise for the firing order?? It is a 20F engine.
Any help or ideas would be apppreciated!! Thanks!

Rotation is CCW, and the firing order is 1-3-4-2.

Thank you.. I did do this and the idle is rough still and it is backfiring out the exhaust. It starts fine. I am baffled with it.

I'm guessing ignition timing.

But, it'd be good to know if it back fires out the exhaust, or the intake. I'm guessing intake, as that's more likely under accelleration.

Loosen that 7/16 bolt that clamps the distributor just a bit, start the car, and rotate distributor until idle smooths out. Test drive. Repeat, until it's happy.

Could be the advance mechanism isn't functioning properly.

Thank you Matt. It is backfiring out the exhaust. I tried adjusting the timing... not sure if I am doing something wrong.. From what I understand, it is Counter clockwise. It starts right up, but idles rough and backfires out the exhaust..
