92 940 won’t start. Code 223 900 1992

My trusty 940 was parked in the garage yesterday afternoon. Went down to leave this morning and would not start!

Checked the ECU and got a 223 code, IAC Valve.
Checked connector to IAC valve and no corrosion seen.
Replaced white fuel pump relay(also able to feel it engage with ign. Switch)
Checked spark at #1 plug-good.
Pulled #1 plug and no indication of gas in cylinder.
Question is can a bad IAC valve cause engine not to start?
Also any other hints welcome.

Gary

Opened fuel line to rail. No flow when hitting Start.

Dug away in trunk and found connector to tank fuel pump. Measured 11.9V on red wire when ign switch turned on.

Must be in tank fuel pump!

    Thanks for all the help!

Go to the No-start PDF and happy reading!! It probably should be printed out...

The 2-2-3 is not a no start condition, just poor idle - if any. You might want to try another start with the gas pedal partially depressed to open the throttle some so it gets a lot of air.

The plugs being dry indicates a fuel delivery problem. No codes in A-6?

Hi Klaus, Only get a 111 in 6 code.
No start with gas peddle down a little.
      Maybe fuel pump?
With much 240 background and little 940. Can one hear the fuel pump on a 940?

      Gary

        Dear vrrroom,

Hope you're well. When the ignition switch is moved to the first position, you should hear a the fuel pump "spin-up". If this does not happen, I'd suspect the crank sensor. If the crank sensor has failed, the ECU does not get its signal, and so allow the fuel pump to keep running.

When was the crank sensor last changed? Heat and time cause the black rubber insulation sheath to fail. Water gets at the wires and causes a short circuit. Without the sensor's signal the fuel pump cannot operate.

A failed IACV requires constant pressure on the accelerator to keep the engine running at idle. If that pressure is removed, the engine shuts down.

        Hope this helps.

        Yours faithfully,

        Spook

Ahh yes, the crank sensor. Had one of these fail on a 240 in the past. Will check it out.

Thanks Klaus for the info on Diagnosing No-Starts.

Tomorrow will investigate with all this additional info.

          Thanks,
          Gary

Correct me if I'm wrong but. 900 1992

Thought if bad crank sensor it also wouldn't send a spark signal.
Jumper around the fuel pump relay and see if the pump runs?
Maybe radio suppression relay not triggering injectors?
