Exaust fell off, engine light came on, removed catalytic converter and now we get very poor fuel economy. The engine light is still on and the sensor is still in the pipe.

    What are the codes causing the engine light to be on?

    The catalytic converter can have a minor effect on gas mileage in theory from either its absence or by being clogged. Its absence will effect the back pressure which can effect exhaust scavenging which will effect efficiency. That being said, I doubt it has anything to do with the poor fuel economy.

    Now if the entire exhaust is missing...or there is an exhaust leak prior to the O2 sensor that is a different matter.
