122 to ES rear end 120-130

I was thinking about swapping in a 1800ES rearend into my 69 122.
I measured both and the 122's is 1 and an quarter inch narrower than the ES.
the ES was 55 and 1/8. The 122 is 53 and 7/8.
So I decided not to do it due to the wheels I have and the fender clearance.
I know others have done this but they must have had different wheel offsets.
I wont be doing it, way to much hassle.
Comments?
Gary

Have you checked the wheel bolt pattern ?

I did, and they are different, another reason I decided not to do it.
Right now I have ford ranger rims on the 122. The ES is the newer Volvo pattern.

Unless you *really* want disc brakes for whatever reason, or you *really* want the option of limited slip, yeah. Don't bother. If you do want both of those options though, that rear is the easiest route. Not an easy chore, even though it's pretty much bolt up.

Width isn't the issue... that'll be fine. But, brake lines and hand brake are.

and if you want the fronts to match the bolt pattern, you need the parts from the front of that ES too.

And of course, then your Ranger wheels won't work. But, it will allow you the vast array of nice looking 240 wheels...

Only reason I'd do it is for limited slip availability. Especially if the ES already has that. But limited slip is not for everybody.

Yup, too much work to just have disk brakes.
There are some cool 240 wheels, but I do like the look of steel wheels trim rings and hub caps, a retro look.
The other thing is you can't use the handbrake to slow you down on the disk rear.
It will work but the parking brake shoes will not last long at all, they are dinky! No handbrake turns, or slow down for the cop without brake lights.
