Another tail light problem 200 1992

92 244, we can not keep the tail lights working, the plug where the harness hooks to the lights are loose, any suggestions, other than replacing the lights?? And where can you find a new plug, or tail light harness??
My daughter is tired of being stopped for no lights.

you are saying the White Harness that plugs into the Circuit board is Lose?

So, only one side goes out from time to time?

Please clarify

Yes the white harness, or plug, and one side at a time, I checked and it shows 12 volts when it should.

not sure how electrical you are but you can Unplug the Connector from the Circuit board. Then you can lift the top of the connector up (it hinges) Take out one wire at a time and squeeze the contacts closer together to give them more Spring pressure against the circuit board.
You can Hardwire the whole deal: tap into each wire and solder a wire from there to it's cooresponding Light bulb socket.

Besides the fixing the plug, if you haven't done so already, clean all corrosion off the circuit boards and grounds. Also make sure all bulb sockets are clean and tight. If the circuit boards are in really bad shape you can buy new ones for @ $25 each. Much cheaper than new lights!

Those sedan tail lights are a real PITA. I had numerous problems with the ones on the my 90 244DL...:)

Good luck,
J

Yes 20+ year old plastic is not good to work with. I will also try cleaning as you recomend, I do beleave as stated earlyer that attempting to re crimp the connenctor will do the most good.

I agree. Crimping the connector will probably do the most good, but it wouldn't hurt to clean everything and gently tighten the bulb sockets so they make a better contact with the bulbs. It's also good PM.
