Broken arm rest: any fixes? 200 1993

'93 245: Arm rest with the slide-out cup-holder.

The arm rest came off of the hinge, that is, the screws that attach the hinge to the arm rest came sort of popped out of the arm rest. The hinge portion is still mechanically solid, it's just that the screws basically "pulled out" of the arm rest. Has anyone been successful at repairing this type of failure?

Thanks,
Cabbie

Lowes or HD hardware section "elevator bolts". You will see immediately the utility of these for your repair. You will not interfere with the slides and they will never fail again.

Okay...I'll check it out at Lowes or Home Depot.

Are you talking about the nut and bolt that goes through the foam in the rear section of the arm rest? Just go to Home Depot and get a 4/5 in nut and bolt. Just measure for you width. If that is not the case then please be more specific. Pic?

Yes...the two screws that go into the foam portion of the armrest pulled out. It appears that the two screws have some sort of gold tipped end that were originally somehow "set" into the foam portion of the armrest.

It's the armrest between the two front seats. Middle armrest.

If I'm reading your post as you meant it--you need to remove the two plugs in the arm rest (small flat screwdriver to lever them out) to gain access to the screw heads. I think the late model 240's used "torx" head screws--early 240's "philips" head screws. There are plastic blocks set into the metal inner door panel into which the screws anchor. If the screws do not tighten into those blocks (stripped) the door trim panel may have to come off to remove the old ones to be replaced by new ones (from a donor car). If your car has the torx type screws use a screwdriver type torx tool rather than a 1/4 inch drive socket which will wedge itself into the opening in the arm rest--tight fit. There should be a flat washer under the head of each screw. -- Dave

Never mind--I did not read your post carefully enough and thought you were refering to the door pull arm rest. -- Dave

Vovlo From Heck after reading your post now I'm confused. OP is it the DOOR armrest or an armrest that resides between the 2 front seats?

I'm sure the confusion was mine--missed the OP's first line referring to the slide out cup holder--your post I'm sure was on target. -- Dave

There is only the 4.5 inch bolt that goes through the arm rest and is secured by a friction nut. You can use a lock washer and nut. Then the 2 metal arms are held to the center console[ where you e-brake handle is] by 2 screws, one on each side. The metal arms are held with thicker bolts going through the arm and seat belt arms.I think the small nut came off of the armrest and the 4.5 in bolt just back out a bit so the armrest came off of one brackets.
