Rear Door Lock Stuck - can't open door. S90-V90 1998

Driver's side rear door. The lock will not release either with the power locks or with a strong tug on the little lock/unlock lever under the interior door handle. That lever won't move.

As a result both interior and exterior handles will just pull through their range of motion without resistance or effect. I am presuming that something is hung up/broken/stuck in the lock mechanism inside the door, but without the door able to open there seems to be no way to remove the panel and get at the innards.

Thanks for any ideas!

Hi,
I experienced a similar issue with my '91 940 sedan.
I had to take the door off by unbolting the hinges from the access of the front door well, the space 'tween the two doors on the body. This enabled the door to be moved out from the latch and removed. Gotta be conscientious and mark the door hinges so they will go back to the (close) original.
I had a hell of a time getting my front door aligned over this past weekend, but that is another story.
Anyway try that and good luck. I think you should have an easy time of it.

Roll down the window, gently pry between outside glass and weather stripping and peer down with a flashlight, you will see the locking mechanism and how to open it. Three hands would make it easier but I have managed it alone. A small wedge made from wood is handy to keep the opening sprea while you probe.
Cutting the door or applying force as suggested would be silly.

I agree. Had to do this on a non-volvo. But to help. Wedged a rubber door stop on the opposite door & open and closed. Using a flashlight you can see what lever is moving to open the door. Then do the same on the non-working door.

Thanks, David. I will try your method after I get back from vacation - going to be away from the car for a while.

Glad to hear of a more civilized approach than hacking and slashing.
