I found a solution that fit my situation. I have a 1992 245 with the "whisker" trim above the bumper, as I call it, separated from most of the clips. My first attempt at a repair was to order replacement clips from TASCA. I loosened the bumper fasteners to slightly drop the bumper for an easier attachment. Didn't work. The trim would not stay attached to the clips as I raised the bumper back into position. Here's what worked. I went to Lowe's and bought an appropriate number of "speed nuts, 1/4" " and a like number of brass machine screws, nuts and washers (I think there are 7 positions). Why speed nuts you ask? They fit into the channel on the backside of the trim and will stay in position with the hole in the body if you slightly crimp the lower lip of the channel edge at the location of the opposite body hole. Of course, you have already assembled the screw with the speed nut before insert the assembly in the channel, and the bumper is dropped slightly. Then starting at one end of the trim, I slipped each screw in its body hole and temporarily held the trim in place with masking tape. With the screws now penetrating the body holes used for the former clips, I ran washers and nuts to fasten the trim onto the body. I think I used brass screws 1-1/2" 8x32. This gave me enough screw length for my clumsy fingers to work. I didn't have to touch the "hockey stick" wraparound trims at each end of the front rim. This solution is working very well, low cost, materials readily available and can be quickly put in place.
For the fun of Volvos
