Volvo 242 GT for sale in Indianapolis 200

Don't know if anyone is in the midwest, but a pretty rare 242 GT is for sale in Indianapolis. http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/cto/3538685621.html

The current owner seems...uh...interesting and apparently cannot drive due to a suspended license. If someone has an old 50cc moped lying around, you could probably trade it for the car. The fuel injection is 'bad' so it doesn't run, but the interior is supposedly in 'good' shape.

Might as well dipped it cow manure and then sell it to a farmer!

Oh, that color with matching wheels, just ship it to Africa or the Australian outback for some background, IMHO.

I believe any prospective buyer should run far, far away! The present owner went so far as to paint all the rims red, yet he's never given this vehicle one iota of wax!! I don't think this vehicle has had a coat of wax since it left the factory, which should tell you volumes about it's lifelong maintenance schedule...

There's a similar listing Craigslist posting in Connecticut for an old 242 (1984) as well. This one has the infamous "beige-rose" color, and has some good selling points. While the engine, engine compartment, and interior looking really clean and unused, the car itself has some really bad rust. Unfortunately, I'd have to think the undercarriage is just as rusty.

While the advertised low mileage of the vehicle appears genuine (a rarity in these Craigslist postings), the persistent rust unfortunately looks just as genuine as well.

Here's a link to this similar Craigslist 242 listing, if anyone has an interest.

Man you guys are brutal. It's obvious the kid (well sounds to me like a kid) has hacked up a GT, and managed to kill the most bulletproof fuel injection in the world.

But all the parts are there, and it even has a Group A wing on it! The body can be painted, the trim can be painted, the stripes can be repainted if you like them. The wheels can be blasted and painted too. (Code 130 silver works really nicely for refinishing.)

      I'd say $750 tops...

You're too generous, Rob. Didn't you used to have a $300 limit?

I still think the damn thing's been rear ended.

        And he's keeping the spoiler.

110% agree that the seller looks and sounds very flakey.

At $170.00, this car wouldn't be a bargain, in my opinion..On top of everything else, the seller is mistaken about this model being the rarest of the RWD Volvos made. I'd have to throw a P1900 into the hat for that honor.."run, run for your life!"

If this is in fact a, "pretty rare 242 GT," someone has certainly been messing with it.

It is the wrong color. Okay, so someone could have repainted it. And done a poor job from the look of things.

The taillight fixture should be five panel, not six.

The badges on the trunk are reversed. The VOLVO badge should be on the left and the 242GT badge should be on the right. In my imagination this suggests that maybe the car has been wrecked and someone has done an amateur repair. That might explain the taillights.

All of this would detract from any value it might have due to it's supposed rarity.

Who knows what else has been done to it?

The grill and headlamps are correct but look to have been painted to match the rest of the car, along with the wheels. The seller won't include the fog lights. Or the mudflaps. The mudflaps? What is so special about the mudflaps? This guy sounds like a jack.

The car is not worth what he's asking just for a pristine interior. Which, by the way, he doesn't even bother to feature pics of. Looking at the rest of the car I have to wonder how good it really is.

This looks like one to stay away from.
