300,000 miles 700

I thought i share this BIG milestone with brickboard community since they made it happen that it got so fare ;-)
i just hit 300,000 miles on my 1987 Volvo 740 Turbo Wagon manual transmisson - I am sure there are a lot of other Volvo's out there with more mileage, but I am still proud ;-)

Here a little rundown on non-maintenance related repairs:
# I bought the car with 198k miles in 2001
# 1 broken exhaust manifold stud (pain in the neck to get it out since it broke off inside)
# ~230k miles my timing belt came off (didn't know that i should replace the belt tensioner too)
# ~240k miles my overdrive started slipping - replaced clutch at the same time
# ~280k miles the crank pulley came off (nose inside was sheared off)
# ~293k miles my head gasket blew (that was the longest repair it needed) - 293k miles and the head gasket blows ALREADY - what's up with THAT??? ;-)
# ~294k miles - mayor oil leak at the oil pressure sensor (replace it and DONE)
# ~294k miles - new front brake rotors
# 300,000 miles YEAH - still running strong

i am getting most of the parts from the junkyard and i feel terrible if i rip parts out of 740's with only 120k miles on it :-(
so my next goal is 400,000 - hope not to post anything at brickboard until then ;-)

thanks again brickboard community

Congratulations! The '87 B230FT with manual is tougher than alot of folks think. My second head gasket has 448K on it but I did what everyone says you shouldn't which is retorque the head.
I plan to hit 600K this Summer !

My 89 740 has about 300,000 also but the speedo stopped working a few times,,I'm looking for another one,,unfortunately by shift lever came out of gear & it rolled backwards ,my rear window was broken out & left turn signal was crushed.
Luckily my prize randoms mutts were secure & fine...

My 745 non-turbo automatic is at about the same mileage (497,300km). I bought it about 4-1/2 years ago and other than maintenance stuff (brakes, etc) it has required the following:

    Timing belt, tensioner, water pump.
Exhaust manifold gaskets (snapped off 2nd last stud, but left it, doesn't leak).
    Exhaust header pipe.
    Rear shocks.
Steering rack from junkyard (steel lines rusted out).
Fuel line from tank to filter.
    Fuel pump and FP relay.

Last year the driver's window stopped sealing, so I'm reducing the wind noise with a piece of weaterstrip.

    Congrats!

Don't feel bad about stealing parts from low mileage wrecks to keep your survivor going. Our Volvo's can serve many purposes and projecting us from other cars is a noble death.

Actually that seems about average for turbos that have been abused, overheated or over-boosted. NA's seem seem to go almost forever until they are overheated...and eventually they always are.

"Actually that seems about average for turbos that have been abused..." was supposed to read "Actually that seems about average for turbos that have NOT been abused..." In my experience it is about 250-300K for the B230FT's and a little less for the B21FT's.
