Power steering pump - tensioner?

90 volvo 740 turbo:

Is there supposed to be a tensioner for the power steering pump and its belt? I sort of remember there being one, but it not seeming to belong. Maybe I removed it because it was damaged or something, or maybe even not attached on one end.

Is there such a thing as power steering pump tensioner?

Cheers

    Power steering pump - tensioner?

    KGV says:
"Then there is a 13 mm hex head bolt you tighten after you've reached desire belt tension."

Partly correct, but NOTE that "13 mm hex head bolt" ("nut"?) must first be loosened to free up the tension adjusting bolt (10mm head), then re-tightened after the tension is adjusted.

Also be sure to snug up the pivot bolt/nut, once the desired tension is reached. I didn't get mine good and snug and eventually the pivot bolt beat out the hole (elongated) in the mounting bracket pretty bad. Of course the belt tension caused the hole to elongate worse in the front end of the bracket than the back end, so then the pump wanted to cock canted and cause the pulley to not align properly. I should have bought a new bracket, but cheapness led me to shim between the bracket and engine block in a tapered way that cocked the bracket outward in the front end, resulting in the belt pulley being back in line.

Ohhh, I'm all too familiar with that bracket. Hahaha. I replaced mine because the hole in the bracket was so elongated that the ps pump ran off-center and eventually warped the bushing. I spent the better part of two hours cutting that stupid aluminum bracket off the car in pieces. They really should have put a steel insert in the aluminum. I think the bracket cost me $35, but it took a good three or four hours to get it off because of bimetallic corrosion and a lack of space to get a proper wrench on place.

I've got that nut cranked down hard, and another nut behind it to lock it in place. It's good advice, and thanks.

    Power steering pump - tensioner? 700 1990

    Hiya Uncle Will740turbo,

Yeah, I think your 1990 includes the belt tensioner for:
    - power steering
    - alternator
    - AC compressor
    - AIR injector pump (if equipped)
    - ? Anything else?

There is a bolt that has a 10 mm hex head on it. Righty tighty and lefty lucy for belt tension. Then there is a 13 mm hex head bolt you tighten after you've reached desire belt tension.

Some find this type of accessory belt tesioners assemblies bothersome. They may remove them and merely use the same tensioner method you'd find on your 1976 242 DL (with moon roof, M46). (Usually after a trip to the salvage yard to get that in fine fettle tensioner hardware [bolt, washer, nut] out of that 1976 242 as the steel is better than anything you'll find at your home improvement store new.)

    Hope that helps.

    MacDuffed.
