couldn't find my answer on the faq 200 1989

i checked the faq and went to the tool section. for the extension housing bushing remover/installer they said it could be purchased from ramac. i clicked on the link and there was no place to order the tool. do you know what tool can be used or what size the bushing is so i can buy a bushing/bearing driver set? this is the last thing i need before i do the repair. a volvo indy shop wanted to charge me 300 for the job. any input on what i can use to remove/install bushing would be much appreciated. -drew

I am not sure the remover is even available anymore. For the most part, I think everyone is pulling the tailshaft housing at this point for bushing replacement.

If you are removing the housing because you can't find the tool, do everything in you power to not have to replace the housing to tranny gasket. Removing the old gasket takes more time than all the other step combined. Second time I did this (different car) I just left the pieces of gasket on the tranny and the housing then smeared a paper thin coat to rtv on both surfaces before assembling. No leaks two years later.

What is an "extension housing" that contains the failed bushing you want to replace? Of what it is a part on your 1989 240?

SPX Tools is the official manufacturer of Volvo OEM tools. They are located in Minnesota.

Tasca Volvo Parts also has these same tools for perhaps the same cost and ship to you as you are in PA-state.

The "700-900-90 FAQ" hosted on the brickboard does not treat matters specific to any other Volvo model. The "700-900-90 FAQ" information is portrayed as useful to the 240 owner, yet I wholly disagree even in matters shared between the 700-900-90 models like the B230 engine and such.

Hope that helps.

Duffed.
