Extra connector on O2 sensor? 200

I recently purchased a Bosch oxygen sensor ('84 240) that has two connectors. One is a single wire that has a (for lack of better word) male spade type connector that slides into a single wire coming out of the wiring harness and has a rubber boot to cover the point of connection. (The sensor that I pulled from the car had just this kind of connector).

The second connector has two terminals and a clip-on type of connector. Is this the heater? My wiring harness has a connector for this, but right now it is not connected. Should it be?

The updated wiring harness for 1983/84, replacing what should have rotted years ago, has the heater connector. If your harness is original, it only has it if your 84 was very late production. If your harness is original, include that in your suspect list as you continue to change parts.

If it has twelve volts in the wire when the engine is running then I would say use it. It cannot hurt as it will just warm up the sensor sooner.

Besides you pay buck ola's for the stupid thing.

You could have purchased a ceramic heater to set on the car seat for what you paid tiny thing!

I do not go that route and just buy a universal one. Shame as there is no return on electrical items.

Enjoy! As it looks good for state inspections that it all looks hooked up.

      All the same? 200

I'm wondering about that. Do they all put out the same voltage or do different ones put out different voltage curves to satisfy different ECU programming?

If the latter, then one might be able to put in an O2 sensor that provides better mpg than stock.

I believe the Bosch types (Zirconia element, voltage generator) all have the same output range, fluctuating between 0 and 1.0 volts depending on the detected fuel mixture.

The Regina type (Titania element, variable resistor) fluctuates about the same as the Bosch Zirconia but can read up to 1.4V with an extremely rich mixture.
