numbers needed on compression test please? 200 1989

I sort of am embarrassed to post/ask this but ive been looking for my Volvo repair manual to get my answer but I cant find it, so far. I think wife put it somewhere when cleans up and she doesn’t recall seeing it. Grrrr. :Þ~~~~

Maybe I did something?? Oh well, anyway here goes: Could anyone please tell me what the compression is on the cylinders, I mean what numbers should I hope to see on a 23 year old engine with 240k on it?

I know I need the numbers to be close to each other, but when I do the test, what should I look for on the dial in pounds?

My guess, and only a guess: 170? 190? Or maybe lower like 150? I just don’t know, darn it, and im almost sure when I get the answer here, hopefully, THEN I’ll find that book!! Anyway, thank you.

****Now' where IS that book????? 'grrrrrrrrrr**" :^Þ~~~~

BTW sincere thanks to those who answered on my prevuous post recently on exactly HOW to do the comp test.. Good answers!!

Another thing to remember - a "wet" compression test will mask ring problems so you can also diagnose the valves. A teaspoon or so of oil in each cylinder before testing. If your "dry" compression is pretty low, thicker oil would be better.

    Be aware that... 200 1989

...the more you crank, the lower the compression numbers will be, as the residual oil on the cylinder walls is scraped off.

ANSWER numbers needed on compression test please? 200 1989

Standard compression should be 170psi and 128psi minimum...This is for the B230 engine. Out of the Haynes Repair Manual 1976 thru 1993. Hope that helps!!!

    Minimum 128psi.

IIRC, 185 is the "goal", though you should be more concerned with how close the four cylinders come to each other.
