To replace fuel line into fuel filter would break it. Banjo fitting not available. Leave it? 700 1990

Seems that no one has given my 1990 Volvo 740 GL a tune-up in many years. My mechanic needs to replace the cracked distributor cap and plugs, and notes that the fuel line into the fuel filter is rigidly affixed - to remove it, would break it, and he can't, as yet, find the part with that banjo gasket fitting. (He's very good at finding parts).

The car had been running well. Should I just let this go, or keep looking for a replacement part. Thank you, with apologies for sufficient knowledge...just time.

Many BBers have not replaced fuel filters, they do seem to go forever.
I am faced with a similar scenario on my 91 245 right now.
Which end of the filter does you mechanic think will be a problem?
One end has a short length of hose with banjos at each end which goes to the fuel pump, the other end has the fuel line.
THe banjo bolt and line end are pretty hard to break. You could break the fuel line itself, and this could be a problem.
The short line which goes to the pump I believe is available.
In my experience, the part which fails is the end case of the fuel filter, it just tears off.

Thank you, Runwild2. There is no indication that there is a fuel delivery problem. I think it is the fuel line end. My mechanic is concerned about breaking the fuel line. I have a gut feeling that this is better left alone. Thank you for responding, and good luck with your own fix.

FYI, I am one of those guys that never replaces the fuel filter. If the car has any history of sitting for years, reconsider this advice, otherwise leave it unless it becomes a problem or other circumstances encourage its replacement.

Thank you. I gave the word to the mechanic to skip it for now. (He wasn't unhappy, and neither am I). Signing off now. Good holidays to everyone.

You guys are killing me. The banjo is not what gets damaged. Its this little line.

Have it with you when you go to change the filter. Here is the banjo bolt if you do actually destroy it(hard to do) http://www.fcpeuro.com/products/banjo-bolt
More importantly you will need the two little copper crush washers that go on the banjo side of the line. If ya have all this when you go to do the job you can just horse the fuel filter off, cuz you have all the shite you will need to put it back together.
