Crank position sensor does the brand matter? 200

I'm having an issue with my 89 240 and have narrowed it down to the CPS or ignition module. I have a spare module and I'm going to replace the cps, mine has a small section of insulation missing although it has been taped with electrical tape. This car is giving me grief. It is a one owner 54k original mile car. I recently replaced a head gasket and then the trouble started. The ECU and Fuel pump relay went out simultaneously. Now I have another cranks but no start issue. Swapped computers again but still no go. This is the only thing left. Broad range in prices for the CPS depending on who makes it. Thanks

Not sure if this applies to the 89, but on our 91 it turned out to be an intermittent open circuit in the red "+" wire from the battery to the ECU and fuel pump relay. I found it after installing a new FP relay--car was running while the relay was hanging, but the car died when moving the relay back towards the clipped position. Gradually worked my way back up the "+" wire looking for problem areas and found a factory butt-type connector/splice in the wire just inside the firewall that had worked itself a little loose. Cleaned things up and re-did the connection and it's been good for the last 2 years (knock on wood).

Hope this helps!

If your spark plugs are wet and there is no spark it is the ignition amplifier / power stage. Always get the original volvo electric parts such as Bosch and in this case Bougicord.

What is the last 3 digits of your ECU and the label color?

The 951 should be fine.

An 89 with only 54K on it has a long life left. Buy a good one; Bougicord

I hope you solve your problem
