Well, actually...I believe that Carl Duke of Duke Volvo Repair in Fort Collins, CO has a 1989 760 sedan with over 800,000 on the odometer. It is one of loaner cars for the shop--still has the original turbo.

Congratulations and great photo.

My 760 has done that!

It now has 241,400 miles:)

Thanks. To clarify, when I said a 740 probably couldn't do this I merely meant that a 740 probably couldn't rack up the miles needed for its odo to read 740,740.

Hilarious. All you guys are hilarious.

I am sad to assume (with some evidence) that the guy who flipped my 240 wagon to me probably turned back the odo on mine. I've had it a little over a year and it now has 196047. And it is a sweet machine.

It's so nice that guys in big trucks don't pull out in front of me now.

I would take back the 92 740turbo wagon over my 240's anyday!!! That car was a beast and incorporated most of the great qualities of the 240 series but with so much more!!! " A WOLF IN SHEEPS CLOTHING"

Yea, my 240 could use a turbo at times. But then I couldn't be amusing when I tell people it goes from zero to sixty in five minutes.

I have never owned a 240 however, my 740 turbo wagon was purchased new and presently is at 268.000. Hope to keep it for many more years. Great auto! To add same engine, same tranny.

After I bragged on my 240's for awhile, my brother decided to get a Volvo. But he got a 740 or 940 or something (they all look the same to me). Always had problems with it, even though it was newer than my 240's.

I don't even like the way the 740's look. And all that "luxury" crap! More to go wrong.

Thanks. I kept my digital camera in the car for a couple days leading up to it. Had to strategize my trips as the odo got close so I wouldn't end up on the freeway and unable to stop to take the pic.

Good photo!

My daughter took a pic of her 940 odometer in the middle of a cross-country trip a couple of years ago when it read 222,222. She posted it on Facebook with the caption "My father's daughter".

Its 'funny' but that 'same' picture-240240 on a speedo is at my mechanics shop under his office counters' glass 'window' from one of his long time customers'.

Our 240 brick reached that a few months ago but i didnt get a picture of it. Darn!

Maybe when it once again turns over to 240240 I'll snap a pic of it after it turns to 0000000 and then gets to the 240240 mark again*** or would it then read 1240240?. hmmmm. ??? When it gets to a million does it turn over to all zeros or read 1000000? I forget, and I dont want to go look at the speedo right now.

Anyway good for you! Just shows what good upkeep does!

Thanks. Yea, it's all about maintenance. Fortunately, these 240s are simple to work on.

But parts are getting scarce ..... 200

re: "...it's all about maintenance. Fortunately, these 240s are simple to work on...."

Agreed wholeheartedly that they're so easy to work on, but my gripe is that parts are getting harder to come by.

Admittedly, there's no good volvo p-n-p to comb through, but I've always liked buying my parts new. Thanks to Ford's interim ownership and their philosophy of planned obsolescence, I blame them for curtailing the stockpiling of parts for these 240s. It's so much easier to get parts for a '70's 140 or for a P1800 (although I concede that their collectibility helps) than for our 240s.

Case in point, my '93 needs a overvoltage protection relay for the ABS system. It's out of stock. ABS is an important safety feature, yet Ford neglected to order an adequate supply of replacements. I can understand not building a supply of trim pieces, but for a vital safety component -- shame on Ford!

In addition, my daughter (at my urging) bought a '07 S60 2.5T brand new, and she's been having needs to bring it back far too many times. Her next car will not be Volvo, and I can't blame her.

Although I've owned Volvo's since we bought a new 164 in '73 (with some detours to M-B over the years), I'm really getting itchy to buy my next new cars from another make -- my wife and I have two '93 240s, and we're ready to buy another pair of new cars. Many others are proving better reliabiility, almost (not quite) equal safety, and I won't have the expectation of decades of longevity with those makes that Ford has violated disappointingly with the care of the Volvo brand. We're gravitating toward a new Forester (for myself) and a new Outback with the EyeSight option (for her, and for our camping trips).

Come on. Fess up.

You reset the trip meter at 240,000, didn't you?
