I accidentally found this place when I got lost. I stopped in at the same time someone was picking up a repaired unit for his 92. I talked with the person who does these and he seemed quite knowledgeable, and says he has done a lot of these. If you bring in or send in the instrument panel, they charge $225 with a warranty; I forgot how long that is though.
He did not know about BB so I gave him the site name; he had not heard of the fuel gauge swap if using a 93-4 unit, but thought it interesting.

    I do a lot of capcitor replacements on televisions i work on, so i tackled this on my 90 745. was a real easy process and i was able to do the job without disassembling the speedo, I also had to replace two cap's on my fuel guage as they were also leaking. $225.00 seems on the high side for a simple capacitor replacement. took me about an hour to properly replace the cap's and about another hour in dissassembly/reassembly.

      If you have tips on soldering these leads to multilayer boards, write them up for the FAQ. It seems to be an art. Did not work for me.

      Got my speedo back from Commercial Speedometer repair in Sacramento CA.
      Works as new.
      Cruise control works.
      Some odd driveability symptoms I have been having on the days the speedo was acting up are gone.

      $203 with shipping. Not cheap but I was really getting tired of switching out speedos from Pic n Pull, and it is one less thing to think about.

      YEAH !!!!!

        This is great news; I really hope it lasts; I was impressed with the guy, so put this info here. Maybe we can ask for a BB discount... although your price was less than he told me.

      Speedo sent. Says 2 day turn around. Asked some questions regading the car/speedo seemed to know of the Yazaki capcitor problem very well.
      I will find out next week.

    Really great news! $225 for whole cluster? Seems like a fair price. I wonder what one gauge would cost.

      The cost is to repair the speedo only; he doesn't charge less if the speedo is removed from the panel, so for most, sending the panel is prolly best.
