240 Sedan tail light brightness 200 1993

I have strange problem with the drivers side inner running 5 watt light on my 93 240 sedan. While the inner passenger running light (closest to the license plate) lights up with the same brightness as the outers, the inner drivers side shines extremely bright. the inners are running #63 5 watt bulbs. Does anyone know what color wire from the plug goes to that inner light? I am thinking about hard wiring, but wanted to know the root cause. Thanks, Greg

Swap the bulbs side-to-side. If the too-bright situation follows to the other side, the bulb is way off-spec and should be replaced.

It is very difficult to come up with a reason for a bulb shining too brightly.

Could that be a fog/rain light?

I would take all the bulbs in question and put them directly across battery voltage to see how bright each one is under ideal conditions.

Perhaps the other two are too dim.

If the bulb in question is too bright, I would get rid of it - too much brightness could mean too much heat and an expensive repair down the road.

Thanks for the input, guys. Tony, I should have thought about Art's website! As usual, he has documented the operation well and I will use that as a basis.

It's one red wire coming in for the Running lights. Should be no reason why the Inner light is brighter then the outer unless you have a wrong bulb in there.

I am no electrical expert, but corrosion somewhere is the most likely cause. Have you looked over the circuit board, wiring, contacts and connectors? Clean everything including the ground. If the circuit board is really bad, replace it.

240 sedan tail lights are notorious for problems. My 90 DL sedan tail lights gave me fits at times!
