How much fuel is in yiur tank when you have problems.

Older 740s have fuel picku p problems when the fuel is low - mine would act up with 1/4 of a tank - others have had problems at even higher levels.

What about some feedback on what you have done about this - we all learn if you share.

My 91 non-turbo 740 sedan is a regina system with only one pump in the tank. I had an intermittent problem also and it turned out to be a poor contact of the pink(+Ve) wire in the harness located in the trunk. I dont know where yours would be in the wagon. I found out by checking the voltage before the connector while cranking (should have batt voltage) and checking the voltage on the wire (pump side)after the connector. I did get voltage before the connector but not after. Also you may want to check the terminal under the fuse box ,fuse 11 ( at least in my case)to be sure its nice and tight and not corroded. I have had my 740 for twelve years and done two pump changes. Both times there weren't any symptoms of a failing pump. They just quit.

For those who are trying to help you...here is the past thread...

    http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/volvo/1536955/740/760/780/car_wont_start.html

You never responded to any of the suggestions then. You have give us no details on what done by your mechanic the first time or the second time. Help use out...what have you had done? Which steps in the FAQ's have you followed and what were the results? What is the condition of you wiring harness at the big grey plug at the firewall?

You have posted the equivalent of "why does my chocolate cake still taste like crap".

Based on what this post says, I'm not sure what you are talking about. However, if it's a fuel issue, and your fuel pump has over 150k on it, I'd change it. That's what worked for my 1990 740, with 166k on it.
