Blower motor seems wimpy on speeds 3 & 4 200 1986

About 7 years ago, I replaced my blower motor in my '86 240 sedan. I only recently have gotten over the trauma of having to do this project. Anyway, I recently had the chance to ride with someone who has a '91 and found that his puts out more air volume than mine. I had replaced mime with a Siemen's unit along with the resistor and switch when I did this project. Mine just seems to be about 20 to 25% less in output compared to the other. Is it my motor or resistor? As far as I can tell, this was not the problem when I changed mine out and the drop has been gradual over the years. I'd hate to think I'd have to do this project again. Thanks for any thoughts.

Unless the Seimens unit is different from the one I installed, speed 4 bypasses the resistor entirely so it is unlikely the resistor.

If you used the "chainsaw" method instead of the full "yard sale" proper way of doing it (it may be proper, but I did not use it) a lower air volume is the side-effect.

Assuming you did it the proper way and you are absolutely sure that volume of air moved has decreased over time I would suspecting one of two things:

You have a partial obstruction on the intake side.

The motor is winding down (pun intended).

Not sure of an easy fix for either but just to eliminate the obvious, I would clean the fuse contact for that fuse and make sure it is a health ceramic and brass fuse.

"You have a partial obstruction on the intake side."

There are a lot of factors that make a comparison difficult. Position of vent louvers, opening, which selected, condition of recirc flap motor...

And yes, what about a collection of crud on the evaporator?
