volvo OE torque rod bushings 200

the nearby volvo dealer wants 38.50 per bushing. IPD has volvo OE torque rod bushings now but not much better at 37.05 each. my question is is there a second best brand bushing. fcpeuro has meyle for 7.50 each. do i get what i pay for or is there a more affordable brand that is of good quality. they should have sites like this for all makes and models. people who also own the same car as you and can provide their experience with the situation.

OK... since I'm fixin to do mine, SuperPro poly vs. OE rubber in terms of longevity. Discuss.

I've seen OE rubber last longer than 20 years - I don't know if Super Pro has even been making bushings for the 240 for that long, and I certainly don't know anybody who has used them that long.

I suspect OE rubber will outlast the poly, as long as it is kept oil-free, but I don't think anybody has the experience to compare.

I'm cool with that

I have used several Meyle motor and trans mounts that have held up well over a couple of years so far. I would not be afraid of Meyle products.

Hi,

If you want OEM bushings call up Tasca. If I remember correctly when checking around they were around $24 each about a year ago. Remember when installing they are directional.

If you go poly you might want to go with SuperPro brand as it seems the MTC poly bushings might fail prematurely. These are not directional.

Thanks for the info about tasca. they have the torque rod bushings for 28 each. almost 9 bucks cheaper than ipd and 10 cheaper than the dealer. I hope there genuine volvo. i'll call in my order to make sure. as for the poly bushings, i've been hearing mixed reviews about them. some people say you feel more road vibration and they start to squeak after a while requiring them to be relubed. if the torque rod bushings on my car were never replaced that means volvo oe rubber lasted 130,000mi. when i replace them with volvo oe i shouldn't have to worry about them for ten years. thanks for all your input.

Hi,

Glad you got things sorted out. Tasca is a dealership for Volvo (among other makes of cars) and sells only Volvo OEM parts at a discount.

Travis this not true they also sell aftermarket parts as well. Recently purchased a catalytic converter for my 240 from them. The OEM is no longer available aftermarkrt was only 99 bucks!!! 5 years ago new OEM would have run you over 600 bucks.

Wow,

That is something I didn't know and I don't think most others do either. Thanks for the tip.

I'm curious, what brand was the cat. converter?

Bosal is the brand. An OEM head is no longer available as well and got a Bosal the metal is much thinner than the OEM pipe. Had to repalce the cat on the 87 cause the pipe rotted off of it from sitting too much. I will get more than my money back for it from a recycler for the platinum value of the pellets.

The torque rod sees a lot of load at times - that is an area where you want the best bushings you can find. OE or polyurethane.

FCP Groton has polyurethane for $14 each. I used them for around four years, IIRC, and they were fine until they crumbled recently. If you are trying to save money, they might be a good option.

For poly, go SuperPro or go home.

I gotta replace my FCP Poly bushings this fall.

Hi,

Were the poly bushings you used the MTC ones?

Want to be on the look out because I used these on my 90 244 and I will have to replace the bushings on my 92 245 at some point.

Not sure what they are. Black Poly.

In general, with bushings the rule of thumb is Genuine Volvo rubber or SuperPro (blue) poly. Everything else is junk and will fail in short order.

For the 700/900's there are some bushings you can source from Boge.

Travis, FCP had (still has) no manufacturer info listed, but they appeared identical to the two part, very dark green/blue bushings that eEuroparts sells as MTC brand. I'm pretty confident that they were the same. They worked very well for around four years, but were utterly trashed when I took them out.

You can always go with polyurethane. Torque rod bushings is the one spot that I use them.
