I have a 94 240 which in most regards is pain free.
My daughter drives the car and is not particularly mechanically inclined (understatement).
Something is blowing the fuse for the park release, and windows.
I've gotta wonder why Volvo has this obsessive compulsion with, relays and solenoids, and why would you want/ need to be this concerned about the trans lockout.
I don't have a book for this car and would probably ask fewer questions, if i had one. What's my best bet for a reference source?
For now, i need a fuse panel reference, this is missing on the fuse panel, and I am clueless as to what serves what.

I am just about convinced the only real advantage to cars over horses is,cars don't smell as bad when you leave them in the garage, till you can make the time to fix them.
I believe the overall problem with the 92 is the condition of the plastic inside the car.
I found my Bentley, and looked a bit in the archives, found the release for the Park Lock, it promptly broke off in my hand.
So I removed the relay, and the miscellaneous broken bits of plastic in the space beneath the, shifting hardware.
I removed the Start inhibitor, b/u light switch, to extract the relay and assorted debris.
I replaced the switch according the Bentley , the b/u lights work but there is no power to the starter.
I have stared at the wiring diagram provided and i don't see the usual 25 amp ignition fuse anywhere.
I am about to take my volt meter out and see what's watts.
I'll let you know how it goes.

I have 6 OHMS resistance between the solder connectors on the back of the neutral start switch (yellow/blue from the ign switch,) When the switch is parked on either Park or neutral.
However I have battery voltage to the b/u lights, but voltage from the ign.
I am still curios about the whereabouts of the 25 amp ign fuse.
Any ideas?

The 25 Amp fuse was the main fuse for FI as well as Ignition.

Starting with the '91 model year it's duties were switched to Fuse 6, previously not wired for anything in U.S. 240s (contrary to fuse cover labeling).

And I believe some late '93 models have a special multi-fuse pack at the battery + terminal that includes the FI and Ignition functions and more.

I have an 86 240 (deceased last November) in the garage, which has become my pick-a-part. I will need to replace the shift covering bits as they disintegrated yesterday.as long as I'm in there i will retrieve the start inhibitor, and see what the resistance is on it.
I will see where, the power went.

I have no voltage at the blue wire from the ignition switch, on the neutral safety switch. All else appears o.k after cleaning the, solder connections. I was able to get continuity between the power in and the 50/p at the appropriate switch locations.
So what's up with that?
Is there a chance of a bad connector under the carpet? Is there a more conveniently located power source, that I can tap into. Getting under the dash is a mild nightmare for me given my size and the general state of disrepair of my back.

Yes, the connector that is jumper-bypassed on manual tranny cars has plug in place of the jumper, with a double PINK on the Ignition side and a mating single Blue (pink?) on the Inhibitor Sw. side. It also has a Blue-Yellow from the Inhibitor Sw. that mates to a Blue-Yellow going to the Starter solenoid terminal 50.

I think the connector is under the tranny hump carpet, not far from the shifter hole. Follow the Blue and Blue-Yellow wires from the Inhibitor Sw. The connector is close by.

Hi Paul,

The Bentley Volvo 240 manual is your best source. You could probably pick up an owners manual for your model year pretty cheap on ebay that would come in handy.

Someone might probably be able to tell you whats what on the fuse panel but you will have to give us the correct year your 240 was made. 1993 was the last year the 240 was produced.
