Just transplanted a M46 into my '86 240 sedan on Monday replacing my AW71 auto and all went well, except for the cut on my thumb. Anyway, my son-in-law who did his a couple of months ago on his '91 without a hitch either. But on mine, it appears that I'm not getting any power to the red OD relay behind the dash. Does anyone out there happen to have a wiring schematic for the OD wiring? I pulled the complete harness off the donor car ('85 240). Looked on VolvoWiringDiagram.com, but there was nothing on the wiring for the manual M46 transmission setup.

I am now officially a master at wiring in OD relays.
I already knew which wires went where on the relay, it was just not getting any power to the relay itself.
After chasing wires around, I came to realize the fuse for the relay was not properly inserted. Thus no power.
After power, the OD relay would not "click" while engaged. After further review, there is a diode in the relay that is not allowing current to pass.

With a new relay we will be golden. Until then he has 2 options: 1- drive without a 5th gear, 2- drive with the relay shield (cover) off and hold the stator winding path (?) closed by wedging something in there to manually make a contact.

There are two different ways to set up an OD system, based on whether you use the 86-up or pre-86 wiring. The later style, with the dark relay is considerably tougher to wire. I would like to suggest you see if you can source the wiring from the earlier cars, which are just a few wires. That's how I did the swap in my '91. Works great, easy to install.

Barring that, I highly recommend you contact Duane Hoberg, the OD Guru. I am almost certain he has the schematics for the later as well as the earlier systems. His user ID here on brickboard is ODGuru, but I'm sure he won't mind me giving you his contact info. You know how to find me.
