96-960 cranks but doesnt start 900

has happened three weeks in a row. the first time it finally started and started fine for a week. a week later, it didnt start and had to be towed in. volvo dealer's shop installed a new fuel pump. started fine for two days. last night same thing. turms over but does not fire. seems to not be getting gas again. This seems to be heat related. the car sits in the hot sun (100 dgrees) all day. all three times it occured when the car was incredibly hot inside . could this be a circuit breaker or relay issue?

thanks for any advice.

Do you know if they checked for any OBD-II codes? and if so, what did they find?

If the 960 has a FI (Noise Suppression Relay), I would check it. In the 940 its located on the passenger side of the car by the battery, usually latched to the fender. This relay controls the voltage to the injectors. Its can intermittantly fail with heat. It is possible to resolder the channels.

This relay is interchangeable with the fan relay (if you have one) located in the same area. Might swap them and see if it fixes problem, just watch your temp :)

Does the tach move when cranking? Cause it could be a cps if that is the case.

Get someone to try and start the car while you tap the relay if it starts pull the relay apart and look for a dry solder joint and hit it with the soldering iron. Then look for a spare to have in the glove box.
