Engine skipping a beat... 200 1993

Every now and then the engine will start to skip. I notice this when stopped at the light, with brake applied. If I throw the shifter into neutral, or park, engine no longer skips. Also once I get going car runs fine and lacks no power. I replaced the plugs, wires, and distributor cap. There are no error codes.

    You have no other shifting problems? How does your fluid look? I have never heard anyone here reporting that problem, but from your description, it sounds like the transmission is putting undue drag on the engine at idle. Perhaps a fluid flush would be in order. If it has been a long time, you may want to do that simply as a maintenance chore.

    Only other thing I can think of is that your idle isn't what it should be, just low enough that the transmission in gear is nearly stalling the engine. Try cleaning your Idle Air Control Valve.
