All New Front Brake Components--still feels wobbly>>Control Arm Bushings?? 200 1988

I just re-did all the Front Brake Components-- flexible & hard Lines, Rotors, Calipers and Pads. Bearings are good and all Tie-Tod Ends and Ball Joints are all good. Also have new struts & shocks and the tires are new & balanced.

But I am still feeling that wobble on hard braking like it could be the Rotors again. I have read that some have found it to be the Bushings in the Control Arms. The car has 166K on it so now I am wondering if the are my problem?

Any one else experience this or any OTHER SUGGESTIONS before I take the Control Arms off the car?

    It could be rotors again...

But, you did not mention rear brakes... They too, can warp... and might only be noticeable under hard braking.

Did you make sure the contact area where the back side of the rotors attach to the strut was clean of any rust or dirt.

Start with the rear control arm bushings as they can be replaced without removing the control arm. Often the front bushings have not failed.

Dan ---Thanks for that tip about the Control Arm Rear Bushing. I have put both the Front & Rear Bushings in the past but it was when I had taken the Control Arm off the car. Now when I looked again at the Rear Control Arm Bushing, it looks like it has a lot of surface area to be pushed out and then back in with the New one.

Is there a method you can enlighten me with to get that Rear Bushing out and back in with the New one WITHOUT removing the Control Arm?

      Thanks for your help!

I have done this several times and the only hang up is if the inner sleeve is corroded/rusted to the control arm and it often is. Remove the 3 bolts holding the bucket to the car as well as the nut holding the control arm to the rear bushing. If you are lucky the bushing is so far gone the bucket easily pulls off. If the inner sleeve is rusted to the control arm you need to separate the rubber from the sleeve or metal housing. YOu might be able to do that by simply twisting the bucket, or drilling out the rubber around the sleeve, or taking a bernzomatic propane / butane torch to the metal housing and separating the rubber from the metal. Have a fire extinguisher handy in case the rubber catches fire.

I have used poly bushings exclusively as replacements in this location, you don't have to remove the metal housing, press bushings in or out, and no need to worry about tightening the large nut in a particular orientation when putting it back on the control arm.

        Hope this helps.
        Dan
