Hi All,

I have no power at the AC pressure switch so I've accessed the relay 136449 clipped on the right side just behind the console. Fuse 12 is OK.

How can I test that relay. There a diagram of how the thing works on the side of the relay, but I can't figure the diagram out. Probably a beginner question, but in many regards, I must admit I'm a beginner.

Marty, you could open the relay and hold down the clapper. That would be the first step. Depending on year (yeah I know you have 93's exclusively) that relay gets different inputs to gate the compressor clutch.

Those of us who spent our allowance at the five and dime think we are getting a bargain at the dollar store.

OK Gents,

Problem is with green sedan. As Art noted I have other 93's in the fleet to swap parts with.

So here's what I came up with. I'm sure you and others aren't surprised at my diagnostic skills. I removed the AC relay from green wagon and swapped it into green sedan. No change. I do have 12v at the pressure switch with both green wagon and green sedan.

With green wagon I jumped the bullet connector (green to white wire) adjacent to the compressor and fed 12v directly from the battery. I can hear what I believe is the compressor solenoid clicking on. The compressor, however does not turn and I believe this is correct as when I jump the pressure switch when the AC is on and the car is running, the compressor clutch does rotate and the AC operates properly (again, green wagon).

With green sedan, jumping the bullet connector results in no "click" from the compressor. I therefore assume that either the compressor solenoid is shot or there is a loose connector for me to check out.

As for fuse 12, all is fine.

Am I heading in the right direction. Anyone have any instructions on monkeying with that compressor solenoid?

Well, you lost me when you say what I interpret to mean you powered the compressor clutch in the working green wagon, yet the compressor clutch did not cause the compressor to engage. And that is normal?

The clutch solenoid has a ground wire too. Maybe that broke off. Remember when you say things like "fuses are fine" or you "have 12V to xxx" to qualify how you determined and under what conditions. I can show you some fine fuses and 12V readings that don't translate into working circuits. Pulling apart a bullet connector and sticking the DMM probe into the end will lead you astray most every time. Take readings on a circuit under load -- meaning with the load connected.

So, did you take my advice and hold the clapper?
