When I originally bought my 1992 745 almost 4 years ago, the air wasn't working, but had been converted to R134a by the Volvo dealer. Not knowing what was the problem and not wanting to start spending a lot of money, I first tried charging it with one of those HC refrigerant kits, but there was a bad leak. I found it was the condenser to compressor line and replaced it, but never got around to charging the system.

Today I decided to get it professionally tested and charged because I didn't to mess with the HC stuff since once you do that, commercial shops won't want to touch it for fear of contamination, or really fleece you if they do. Well, it turned out that after $100 I still had a leak, this time in the "high pressure line". The mechanic pointed out the skinnier of the two lines that run on top of the frame rail on the passenger side of the engine compartment. It looks like it runs from the firewall to under the rad. The service advisor then told me that not one of these available in North America, presumably according to Volvo.

I just checked FCP Groton just now and see that they don't even list it. Can anyone here familiar with these systems identify this line for me and steer me to a Volvo parts supplier that would have it?

When an AC repair/conversion shop told me $1600.00 to $1800.00 to convert the system and recharge etc I decided just to roll down the windows, works real well.

Try PnP.

I have a 91 that one of the best Volvo mechs converted before I got it, was done about 6-7 years ago. It still works.

That sounds like what I ran into 2 years ago on my '93 940 -- the skinny pipe on top of the frame rail that connects up front to a shorter, curved pipe that connects to the condenser.

I needed the shorter curved one, but Volvo said not any more. I then decided to try aftermarket, and to my surprise found out that BOTH of those pipes were available (as a unit) under the PN of the front one (I think).

So far, I can't find the receipt, but will post back if/when I do.

Id just have one fabricated. There is a place here in Ft. Worth called Stewart Hose. You can bring just about any kind of ac/hydraulic hose into this place and they fabricate it on the spot, usually within 15-20mins.

I would look for a place around you that provides this type of service, or I'm sure you could mail the hose to Stewart Hose and they can fabricate it/send it back.

The technician actually said he would normally just make a replacement line if it were simple enough, but this one is not. As for fabricating lines, when the steel lines on my power steering rack rusted through, I took the rack to a local hydraulics shop to see if they could fabricate new lines. It would have cost more than a brand new rack.

I'm still hoping to get air working if it can be done without spending more than another couple of hundred bucks, but I won't hold my breath. I've never had a car that the A/C worked for any length of time. Even if it works, my driver side window mechanism is now so worn out that there is more wind noise when it's all the way "up" than when it's 1/4 way down.

The 2 pipes sold under PN 3537409 (Behr brand) are shown HERE at eEuroparts. I also put in a new orifice tube when I installed those lines 2 years ago.

Note that these pipes aren't shown like they would be when installed. The threaded end of the upper pipe comes from the condenser, while the other end connects to the lower pipe that is pointing towards the firewall.

Okay, I think we're getting somewhere! I take it that those 2 pipes connect together (for ease of installation?) to replace the one I need. I see on my car the pipe gas rubber tubing over it at one point where it's up against the lower rad hose. Does eEuroparts.com supply the needed o-rings as well, because I don't see any not for o-rings to also purchase?

When I ordered mine they came with o rings alrady on them. Does not hurt to ask though!
