The case of an interesting story or I am not do dumb after all. 900

I have had the 96 960 since 98. My son was around 9 or so when we got it. He has never been into cars that much as most youth today are not really in to it. He even said it was a dated design car. I have been letting him drive the 960 to work and back after he destroyed my wife's Camry.

He recently has been working at Carmax, and has been exposed to many makes and models on the lots. He just came down to the mancave and explained to me that the Volvo is the best car he has driven, how the seats are the best, and best quality, and how the controls feel, the seating position, the comfort and drivability - he went on and on about it. I told him, yes, that is why I bought it. I had told him for years that it is a great car, but I guess he had to find out for himself. Made my day.

The case of an interesting story or I am not do dumb after all. 900

Just like everyone else, I have many stories about my Volvo's. I have 3 sons and they all HAD to drive a Volvo during High School. My logic was - they were underpowered, boxy and none of the son's friends would want to ride with them.

All loudly proclaimed how they hated Volvo's and when they could buy their own, well, it would never be a Volvo. Fast forward 15 years and 2 of the three sons are in an old Volvo 240, other is in a 17 year old Jeep. Bought the new car and had payments, couldn't work on it themselves, left them stranded, etc... Suddenly now, they proclaim how good of a car the Volvo's are, and they can work on them, and they don't have a car payment! Kinda brings a tear to my eye!!!!

I was a confirmed GM driver from when I was 16 to when I turned 68 yrs old , then GM Pi#@$ed me of so bad I took my sons advice and bought a 1991 745 Turbo, best darn car I ever drove , wouldn't part with it , in fact I bought a 92 744 sedan for my wife , she loves it too.

Another similar story...

I bought a friend's well used 81 240GL for my son's commute to high school in 2001 and though he was glad to have his "own" car, it was the oldest and rattiest thing in the high school parking lot. But we had some good father-son time fixing and maintaining, and he grew to really appreciate Volvo quality and durability.

In college, it drove and rode better than his pals' Civics and Golfs with half the years and miles. When the time came to move on, he wanted/needed an AWD for the winters and found a decent used V70-XC. I believe I've created a Volvoholic.

I've still got his old 240 in the back yard...can't let go.

I have a 1974 144 which i grew up with. My dad kept it in mint condition and it was his only car for 30 years. When he passed on 10 years ago, i did a full restoration on the car and my mother drives it daily. And I have a nice 940 as my own Volvo. Probably will replace it with a newer model if it ever quits. Never driven a car that feels so confident on the move.

Similar story: I hated the fact that my father bought an '86 Grand Prix for my sister's first car, but made me drive his 240 wagon. When it came time to get a car of my own, I couldn't find ANYTHING as comfortable and intuitive to drive as a 240. . . and the rest is history.
