780 Bertone... What to expect? 700 1989

To save it from a one-way trip to the crusher, I bought a 1989 780 Bertone from a local guy. This car is way too nice to part out or crush, but it does have some troubles.

Cosmetically, the paint is badly eaten on the Hood, Roof, and Trunk lid. Plus it almost looks like the hood flew open on someone - as the hinge is broken on one side and bent-up on the other. The only rust i have have found, is on the metal bezel for the sunroof. The rear window surrounds look good.

I know that this is basically a 760T, but do these have any major quirks that I should be aware of (aside from the body)? This one has a fuel issue. best guesses are pre-pump, hoses, or the relay. Any funky electrical issues?

I have read this file

Having Bertones, they are not a 760, the 760 is a design follower, however many parts are the same. Definately the hood hinge from any 700. An 89 is a good year and had the Bosch 2.2H with Hall Sensor vs. the 90 2.4H with the crank position sensor. Starting in 87, they had the PRV V-6 with EFI, not the prior dogged V-6, and a solid axle like the 740s. In 88, they went to IRS and the Turbos. In 90, they added the turbo plus. Overseas, they had manual transmissions and also were shipped with turbo diesels. They are sweet rides and came with many gingerbread options, mud flaps, chrome wheel well trims, headliner fabrics, and interior two-tone colors.
My 87 is getting the clear coat flakes, normal for sun or no wax. Dash wood is different so do not try to refinish it until you know what it is.
Fuel problems generally are easy, FPR, relays, and then the harder filter and pressure pump, or in tank pump. Given the age, it is probably the latter.
Funky electrical issues are common with the other 700s, seats can do parasitic draws, other than that, no surprises.

The clearcoat may be able to be sanded away, clean up the paint that's left, and spray a new clearcoat.
What motor is it? Early ones had the V6, later ones had the T4, that year I'm not sure as it appears some had one and some had the other. In either case it's lh2.2 I believe, so not the same as your 940.
It will have the Nivomat rears, so finding good used 760 ones may be a good idea.
The later cars, at least the 91, had the 24 front sway. That could be swapped in.
Some have had rust under the side windows.
I have left side head and tail lights, and a grille btw. Oh and side trim.

This has the familiar B230FT. No rust around the windows! Might need a left front headlight, looks like a rock or BB got this one and poked a nice little hole. I actually *just* bought a replacement pass rear lens. Oh well. Was a pretty good deal.

*have* noticed that the left corner is sitting a little "low" Probably a Nivomat failing, eh? This would be the 1st time I've run into Nivomats...

Gotta solve the fuel issue. Not the relay, getting nothing up at the rail. Will probably start a separate thread if the Search/FAQ doesn't have the answers...
