Vintage Volvos in West Texas? 444-544

Can't wait to drive the PV thru a small West Texas town just for the weird looks. :)

Boy, can I ever relate to "weird looks". Back when I had my VolvOldsmobile ('76 265 w/215 V8) on the road I took a trip to visit my son in Winston-Salem and then on to Miami to see my dad. In a quest to improve mpg I made a front spoiler using a roll of aluminum roof flashing--doubled over for strength and hanging off the front bumper--it came down close to road level. I drove on back roads through South Carolina to reach I-95 and I can tell you--without exception--I got stared at by every single person who happened to be in their front yard. After a while it gave me the creeps. I hope your experience is more "friendly" in nature. I would have been fine if the reaction was more along the lines of rolling on the ground with laughter. -- Dave

Perhaps they were worried you had just driven thru a tornado. really, who puts roof flashing on their car intentionally? The rednecks use ducttape, not perfectly good aluminum. :)

Well, the longhorn I met yesterday didn't seem bothered by my car. He was eyeing a Dodge pickup truck tho. good thing it's blue not red.

Glad to hear the longhorn was benign. As far as the use of duct tape--I have great respect for the product--some rough spots on the Volvo From Heck have been covered by paintable duct tape for years. I'm half afraid the whole car may fell apart like those exploding toy cars we played with in the 50's if I should pull on any stray tape edge. Watching the Red Green Show on public tv years ago was an inspiration. Long Live Duct Tape -- Dave

Wow...I thought I was the only one who still remembered those exploding cars!! You'd wind them up, they'd race across the floor into the nearest wall or chair leg and fly apart. I think we might have gotten them from some TV ad or something. I seem to remember them coming in the mail. Am I going on too much about this?

I know nothing of these exploding cars. maybe you have to be as old as the antiques to remember? I'm only a classic. toys were much simpler back in the day, and you didn't have to buy an overpriced cheeseburger and fries to get them. ah the good ol days :)

Those nice folks in SC were probably in shock after seeing a nice wagon messed up like that!!! They probably laughed when they came out of shock.
