Hi. although I do not the answer to your direct question (and it's been answered already anyway), I can tell you that I have removed the crankshaft pulley without the use of the special tool. I used the rope trick. Basically, remove the spark plug from cyl 1 and turn the crankshaft with a wrench until the piston in that cylinder is at BDC on a compression stroke (both valves are closed). Now stuff a long piece of rope into the cylinder bore through the spark plug hole. Stuff enough rope in there so there is very little room left. now turn the crankshaft with your wrench in counterclockwise direction until the piston comes up against the rope and stalls. Now you can undo the nut on the crankshaft pulley. As long as your valves are closed you will not damage anything and the piston will compress that rope pretty good, but after you are done remove the rope and reinstall the plug. Make sure the rope is not shedding fibers, of course. I did it with your basic clothes line rope making sure there was no frayed ends. Worked great and no need for tool. I did it when I was replacing my timing belt.
