Crank/intermediate shaft seals, take 2. 200

I finally got my new seals this week, but didn't have the time to work on the car until today. For those who didn't see my post last weekend, I put the crank/intermediate seal in too far, thus resulting in a horrific leak.

Anyway, they're in and I wanted to get some feedback to see if their in correctly before I put it all back together. Here's the pics:

I have to replace the same seals as well as the camshaft seal. The pictures helped a lot, but I have a couple questions.

1. How do you get the old seals out?
2. Does the camshaft have a notch in it like the crankshaft? I was concerned about trying the job myself if I couldn't get the engine properly timed when I put it back together.
3. How did you get the crankshaft gear off? I don't have any air tools, so I'm not sure how to get the gears off in order to get to the seals.

Thanks to anyone who could help.

Spend some time in the 700/900 FAQ Forum for common 240 engine info (same as on 700/900 cars). For crank pulley bolt I use and recommend the "rope trick".

UPDATE: 200

Thanks everyone! I got it all finished up today and it's running perfectly with no leaks. I'm glad all is well and I hope she runs for another 300k!

Hi,

That looks pretty good, for seals that is. ;)

The placement looks good to me.

I would add that there appears to be some residue on the cam shaft and perhaps a bit on the others as well. I always like to do whatever it takes to have a bright shaft to slide my new seals over when putting them in place (along with a coating of grease on the shafts themselves).

Lacquer thinner does a good job of dissolving the residue. I put some on a rag on the end of a screwdriver to reach into the carrier to get all of it.
