Any thoughts on preventive radiator replacement? I replaced the radiator soon after we bought the car. It had 93,000 when we bought it and we are now approaching 300,000. There are no leaks or signs of trouble, but we do plan to put on 4,000 miles traveling this summer.

    Is it metal or plastic?

    If all metal ..I would think there is no real concern. If plastic ...I might be prone to replace it ..especially if you have long trips planned.

      its with plastic tanks. Can you even source the all metal radiator anymore???

        Someone is selling on ebay. Just search '240 metal radiator'

        I've not had any experience with the parts or seller, so I can't vouch for them.

        Perhaps someone else here has experience with the seller.

          CSF Radiator Model 2058 fits 240s

          3 Row All Metal. running one in an 80, one in an 87...

          When I bought them....about 10 years apart....were about $150 including shipping.

          At the time it was the same radiator that IPD was selling for $250+

            The original plastic radiator in my '91 lasted 8 years. I replaced it with an all metal radiator that is still in service.

            The Nissens and Behr plastic radiators in my BMWs last 8-10 years, except for the Nissens that I put DexCool type (Prestone 5/50) antifreeze in. That one failed after one year. The seals between the aluminum core and the plastic end caps dissolved.

            Other than the DexCool disaster, all have failed in the same mode: The top nipple rots from the inside out and snaps off with no warning. Not something you want to have happen in the middle of the desert.

            First off there is nothing wrong with plastic radiators, but even the best (Blackstone) get brittle after 20 years of service.

            I would be leery of no name cheap made in China radiators.
