93 245 exhaust 200

My son picked up a 93 245 and it needs mufflers,he wants to know if you can eliminate one of them and which one would you leave out? I have a 84 244 ti and I only have one so I said I would ask the B.B.

The turbo reduces the exhaust noise level significantly. With one muffler in a wagon its going to be very drony. The front muffler is a straight through resonator with very little restriction.

    Hi,

Just go to Tasca website and purchase item #273989 for the exhaust kit. At around $150 it will probably be much cheaper, better quality and way easier to just go with stock parts. It would also be easier to deal with when it comes to any future repairs.

Amen. I've been running 240's since 1979, so I've dealt with my share of exhaust systems. Far and away, the greatest value is in OE Volvo exhaust parts, especially when the aftermarket stuff is nearly the same price. The Volvo parts just fit better and last wa-a-a-ay longer. Also, a cat-back kit from Volvo includes all the hangers and clamps.

The same can be said of any part made of bonded rubber. Authentic Volvo motor mounts, suspension bushings, strut mounts, etc. make the aftermarket facsimiles look like jokes.

Yup, OEM Volvo is by far the best. At $150 the cat back kit is a bargain. As mentioned it includes everything. I'm assuming the car doesn't need a catalytic converter.

A reasonable option with a little sportier sound is the IPD sport exhaust cat back system. One muffler with a long straight pipe. A little louder than OEM but not too bad. Had one on my 90 sedan for awhile. Lasted about 3 years in New England. Might last longer in a milder climate with salt free roads. Pretty easy to install too.

Thanks for the replies,I am going to look at it over the week end. I do want him to buy all new from the header pipe back and see which one to eliminate. From the way it looks when I was pricing the parts the back muffler looked smaller so that one might go.

You can buy a turbo cat back kit that just has one muffler or take it to a muffler shop and they will do what ever you want.

I prefer to install kits and hang everything like stock. If you take it to a shop they will weld it together and bastardize the hangers.

    Hello,

My 1977 264 GL. which I converted to a 1983 B23F, works well with just one muffler.

However, you should be aware that patching together old exhaust systems is very difficult, and it might be better to purchase a new system.
