Does anyone know if a dashboard from a '91 will fit an '83 240? Thanks! j

You might want to evaluate whether the '83's engine hood cable and mount under the dash should be replaced by the '90's or left in place. Not sure if the '83's will fit if the knee bolster bracketry and trim are intended to be installed. Also, the vent on the left knee may end up being covered with this swap.

For the fun of Volvos.

This is another issue that's got me thinking. The left side of the knee bolster mount is actually part of the car body - welded to the metal above the fuse holder. I would really rather have the hood release on the '91 if I could make it work, too. The release on the '83 is kind of a funky contraption.

Btw, I did get the knee bolster and as much of it's bracketry as I was able.

I think the knee bolster bracket can be removed. It should be held in place large Torx screws on either side of the steering column.I also believe it is part of the bracket that holds the hood release. All of these parts will need to be bolted to your car.Your car will not have the welded in place nuts so you will need to weld or drill a hole and use nuts and bolts. When removing the parts take a mental picture of how things are connected.Keep all the nuts, bolts, screws. It is doable ,just a lot of little things to keep track of.The hardest part for me was the knee bolster.I sold the car before I had a chance to finish it,87 240 with 93 dash and console.

HMMM, I've pulled them where they were bolted on. But the guys raise excellent points about the plastic wheel cowling and the hood cable, a much improved design. Grab it all.

Well, it will fit fine, but you might want the lower structural supports for the bolsters and install those for a finished look. It all goes in perfectly but the attachment point for the bolster frame at the drivers left leg must be measured and mounted at the same point in the 83. Dashes were all the same through 89, then 90-93 had the bolsters.

Thanks Rhaire - there's a nice one at the junkyard that I have my eye on.

Also grab the surround for the steering wheel, bezel for the ignition switch, and the center console where all the rocker switches sit. You'll thank me later.Ask me how I know.

I didn't see your message before I went to the junkyard. I'm back with the replacement dash now. I actually thought about those parts as I was removing them. I should probably go back tomorrow and get them before the car gets more ransacked.

a note - this car was a beauty and it made me sick to see it end up in the Pullapart.
