I had bought new plug wires and tuned up my 85 Volvo years ago and it ran horrible after. It took me about three months to finally figure out 3 of the new plug wires had almost no continuity..I just couldn't believe it was the new wires so i messed with everything else first..They would toggle on and off at will...Drove me nuts but i finally put a tester on them and found the reason it would miss so bad (At Times)..3 wires were bad..Check your new wires!!!..Or if they have a Limited Life Time warranty return them for a new set..(Maybe) this is your problem???

hi sages- have been having the same problem with my92 240. for a while it was only misfiring when cold or damp. now its doing it all the time. just checked the 1342 firing order and the correct position of the wires on the cap. going to replace the cap and rotor tomorrow. will probably have to split the rotor with a chisel as it is stuck. if ng then will ohms test each plug wire with my meter for uniformity. wires themselves look to be in good condition. last step will be coil replacement but hoping thats not it. costs $48. any advice, chime in. thanks tons oldduke

OK Problem solved!
Took to a mechanic

How embarrissing!
The PLUG wires were in the wrong positions on the rotor cap!!!!!!!!

For future reference.
Plugs are as follows on rotor cap:
With you facing the engine from the front of the car.
#1 Closest to radiator hose- front left.
#2 Closest to battery -front right
#4 Closest to brake master cylinder-rear right
#3 Closest to intake manifold-rear left

#1 plug closest to radiator
#2 next plug
#3 next plug
#4 plug closest to fire wall

Been there myself, it is embarrassing. But oh what a relief when you figure it out.

How was the car running before you did the work?

Did you check the gap on the plugs before you installed?

Is the cap seated firmly on the distributor?

Car ran fine no problems

Plugs are platinum $$$ no tapping required

The rotor cap seemed a little tight, in other words it took a lot pressure on the springs to snap shut

I will go back and check the plug to plug wire connections
Trace the plug wires to 1342
And take a closer look at the rotor and cap

Let you know the outcome

Platinum plugs do not work well in the 240, NGK or Bosch Copper are the best. Always get Bosch or Bougicord (wires) ignition parts, the aftermarket offers junk.

I got bio guard wires they don't seem to want to snap onto the plugs or they don't feel secure

Plugs are NGO iridium 7bucks piece. Did not set gap

Checked all connections

Three seems to be a miss in the exhaust every once in a while.

Car is not drivable

I am going to put all the old parts back in and see what happens

Good old Copper plugs are all you need along with Bosch cap and rotor and Bougicord plug wires. Go to FCPgroton.com or eeuroparts.com and get the good stuff. In the mean time regap the old plugs.

Just had this happen .. 200

I was checking timing alignment ...just moving things about a bit ... pulled distributor; cap off ...# 1 plug was out.

Then I put it all back together ...rough idle. Could not figure.

It was the injector plug on the #1 position. I had jostled it loose enough that it did this. It had all appearances of being fully connected.

I had been pulling and checking my injector connections a few days prior ..and apparently did not get that one fully back on.

Hope this helps.

With this little information there are so many possibilities.

How about... plug wires in wrong order.
