350K or the van ... 900 1993

The wife wants a van ...more room for grand-kids. She is perfectly happy with her 93 940 w/ 350k on the speedo ...even though I know it needs work. :)

My father in law will sell his 97 Ford Windstar w/ 60K on it for 2000.00. He has kept it up fairly well, but it has been sitting ..so tires will be one of the first things. It has a few other nit picky things (rear air won't blow; a window motor needs replacing) to deal with ..but still smells new. It is solid run wise.

So my question ..

Sell the brick, buy the van.

Buy the van ..keep both (which I really do not need)

Forget the van. Take the 2K and make the 940 better.

I would love an opinion here ...especially (but not only) if someone has had some dealings with Windstars.

Thanks

Keep the Volvo! Get a third seat(wait, is you car a wagon?) for the grandkids.

More than once I have made the wrong decision of selling one of my perfectly fine RWD volvos because I thought I needed bigger/newer vehicle, just to go back to a RWD volvo a couple of years later.

My vote is to sink a bit of money into the 940, especially since your wife likes it. Has she driven the Windstar much? Maybe y'all should give it a good test drive for a few days if you havent already.

    Good luck on your decision

OH ..well. I might have been a bit foolish posting this here. It is a dilemma for me .. none the less.

    :)

The Windstars of that era are known to have issues with the Tranny. I'd take a good sniff of the ATF before buying.

        Thanks. That is good info.

About decided to put some money into the brick ...make it better. With a good tune ..it will get about 25mpg. The Windstar is noted to get about 21 ..not bad for a van, but still ...

        Thanks again ..to all
