Looking for a REALLLLY loud horn 700 1991

I am looking at ways to lessen idiots driving into my bricks.
SOOOO short of not driving or owning an armoured personnel carrier
I would like a set of really loud horns. The stock stuff just seems to squeak.
I think I can shout louder.

Anyone direct me to something 12 VDC that will fit infront of the rad area that fits the bill?

thanks ian

Those Casillac horns sound great! I too am disappointed in the sound of my horn. It's been replaced at some point and has a weak, pathetic beep-beep sound. I put a set of air horns on my MGB years ago, but was never really impressed. Even with a good relay, there was a few milliseconds delay until the air pressure built up and I was never happy with the high pitched euro sound. What you need is something that sounds like a semi or freight train is bearing down on the culprit you are trying to warn. You need something like the Fiamm Freeway Blaster horn. http://youtu.be/6EVX2kCPmrs

Get a four horn set from a Buick or Cadillac in the wrecking yard. They are notes A, C, D, and F. I install a relay to operate them. On a 1991 700/900 they mount nicely under the headlights. I have sets on three of our cars. The next time I install a set I'll take pictures and make a post.

Check out this Youtube video. The sound is awesome!

Would you please share some specific tips on where on a 940 you mounted them and what you used as a bracket. Thanks, Bill

These two following pictures are of the 4 note horns as installed on our 1993 944T. The brackets used for the fog lights used on the earlier 740s won't let you mount the horns this way.

These next two pictures are of the 4 note horns mounted on our 1994 944T. I think mounting the horns just behind the bumper gives better sound, but the horns are more exposed to road spray. This location wouldn't be good on a car located where the roads are salted in the winter.

This last picture shows where I mounted the horns on the 1994 car. I drilled the sheet metal flange. The threaded end of one of the bolts is circled.

Thank you so much for those pictures! I knew if you had done it 3 times there was great wisdom to be had. For $20(4x$5) my hornless 940 is about to have horns again.

Below are two pictures of the fifth of six cars to get the horns. This installation was easy since I had already installed a relay to operate the air horns my kids gave me about 14 years ago. Yes, I left the air horns connected.

I've installed the 4 note horns on four of our cars. I'll probably do another 740 today.

I added a relay to operate the four horns. The relay is operated by the stock horn circuit.

We used to go to the junk yard and get a nice set of 6 volt horns.

You could not use them a real lot, but they were LOUD.

If you have a good electric motor shop nearby, perhaps they could rewind a couple to use 8 or 9 volts - that would do it.

Try your local autoparts store, or just about any American Iron online store. Air horns tend to die early from dust/dirt/water. Just make sure they will fit behind the grill area.
