The pneumatic support rod for my trusty 1967 222S tailgate gave up the ghost a few weeks ago, and I have not been able to locate a replacement at the usual spots. Does anyone know of a source?

At least Volvo put in a fail safe device on the other side so you can lock it into position.

That is a great site! It may not have exactly what I need, but I may be able to jury rig something for cheap, we are talking about a $200 car after all.

While I am waiting for my local Volvo dealer parts guy to call back, I'll measure full/compressed dimensions, and do my best to estimate the required force.

The only place I have ever been able to get the correct tailgate shock is directly from Volvo.

The last one I remember selling over 3 years ago was over $85.00.

The current suggested list price for the support from Volvo is $116.47!

The part is still available, but there are none in any of the Volvo warehouses in the USA.

According to VP Autoparts (the US affiliate of the Swedish Veteranprodukter AB) this part is 676 SEK in sweden (with 25% sales tax) so it should be about $80-$85 + shipping with them. Part number is 670449.

I did not think to look at VP, but they do appear to have them.

However, the suggested USA list price I have, which is from March 2010, has them at $94.95 a piece.

I know VP had an across the board price increase about 6 months ago, so the price is probably a little higher now.
