FINALLY! A cupholder that works 700

After years of cupholder grief. Found this on Ebay(I'm not affilliated) also their website is a little cheaper.(cupholdersonline.com) Hope this pic isn't too large. Only drawback, fold it up to access the glovebox with a drink in it. Pulled ashtray, fuse cover and storage box above it. Couple bolts and nuts. Several colors to chose from.

This type of cupholder was a standard equipment of the VW Vanagons and later Eurovans for years...

FINALLY! A cupholder that works 700

On the 164 I found a cardboard box that just fit between the seats and cut a hole in it
with my pocket knife.... Worked for years.

Thanks for posting this, Aleekat.

The pictures of the round cupholders on the website reminded me of something I did sometime back. I found a PVC plumbing coupler at a hardware store that was 3" in diameter and 3" tall that I sawed in half to 1-1/2" tall. Not an easy task with a hacksaw, but there was a indication of a line on the outside that I could follow. Then I glued both pieces (cut side down)to the inside of the door of the glove box with PVC glue.

On my 88-740, there are two indentions stamped on the inside lid. You cannot center the pieces over these indentions or the pieces will not allow the lid to close. They must be moved back about 3/8" toward the inside of the glove box. Before gluing the pieces down, tape one down and make sure the lid will close when in that position.

They have worked very well so far although the 3" diameter was a bit too large for coke cans or fast-food cups, a piece of foam weatherproofing taped to the inside worked OK. If a 2-1/2" diameter x 3" tall coupling is available, would work better.

James

Good idea. What is nice about this one is the arms extend just with friction to accommodate the larger size cups.
