want to switch clusters 260 200

I have a 79 262c and would like to add the 81 version of the cluster and dash.Is is a plug and play situation? I know the dash will fit but how about the wireing for the cluster? TIA

Don't know if this will help or confuse. But the 1980 diagram below is the same for 1979. And the 1984 diagram agrees with the 1981 diagram. This assumes the 262 cluster is the same as the 240, which I think it is.

Clock and instrument panel lighting were independent of these two connectors in the earlier models.

What 31/1 and 31/7 in the 1980 represent are a mystery to me at the moment. So maybe someone else can supply that information. I don't recall if anything was connected here on my 1980 DL.

I believe that 31/6 on the later diagram is another exciter wire for the alternator. So I'm thinking you would move Red at 31/4 to 31/6.

The Blue/Red wire at 32/2 on the early model and 32/a on the later is switched battery voltage through fuse 13.

And, obviously, you don't have the choke indicator wire.

I would strongly suggest you double check all this just to be sure.

Any and all comments or corrections are certainly welcome.

Thanks the diagram helps.Looks like I will also need the connectors on the rear of the cluster with some pig tails for splicing. It little more work than I had hoped.I may have a lead for an 81 V6 cluster but the guy is very slow to return calls or messages.

I don't recall that the connectors are physically different.

Even so you should not need to splice. The receptacle wires are pretty easy to remove and even easier to insert.

Keep in mind if one car is a V6 and the other a 4 cyl, then you will have a tachometer issue.
