79 242GT. 2.1L 4 cyl, 4 speed w/ overdrive. Flat Hood Volvo GT (Getting harder to find)Car has been stored for a couple of years. Currently runs but needs exhaust and brakes to be bleed to be road worthy. Also needs a new fan blade as I used it on another volvo. Installed new calipers, rotors, stainless steel lines and pads less than 3k miles ago. Currently has mag rims with new tires but stock steel or mag rims also available. Email for additional details or pics. Would like to sell this week!

It has the wheels that should have come with my 1992 240 GL. Oh well. This person has another craigslist advert and is actually selling three 240s ...

Probably already sold? I'd like to own a 1979 242 GT again, someday. Or simply a 242. My fave 240 of all time is the 242. I love them all, anyways.
Hope that helps.

.sig? No need no .sigs. At least I did not nerd out this time when some said "Volvo" or "lunch" or "rhetoric" or used an unqualified pronoun or "there are" to begin a sentence. Run on.

Uncle leugim,
Oh, that is one hopeful 1980 242 GT! Thank you!
Dare I say it? Kick Ass!
Uncle 240GT,
That 242 GT in Milwaukie with the Blatz beer and cigarette smoker abouding may have had the interior replaced for some reason. Indeed, the seats are out of a 1989 or 1990+ 240. Though I've not seen such light grey velour factory seat covers before; cool. Indeed, it needs helps. As it is a 1979, I worry about unseen rust, of course, being in a single snow flake and young tons of salty roads a washing and brining (pickling) that undercarriage.
Maybe someday, a 78-80 GT, yet not now. Unless it falls from the sky, is a two door 240 before the rotting wire harness era, is signal international safety orange, is a 164, or, again, falls from the sky and kills me, the local Girl Scouts organization gets all three of my Volvo, the old Pioneer receivers, and a lot of black tea waiting to be brewed.
RWD Volvos shall kick thine duff, resoundingly!
Happy Holidays everybody!
MacDuff and the invisible kitty that could be grey and and fuzzy if visible that, like Tunces the driving cat, could chauffeur the Volvo about into some deep N. Idaho mountain ravine. The local Girl Scouts organization still gets it all. I have not pets. Just the Volvos 240.

The interior is deff not correct. All GT's as far as I know, all had the black with orange stripe. Steering wheel is correct as are the driving lights. The paint is correct as well. Not all GT's had the black and Orange stripe on the exterior paint. My 80 GT has the black small pin stipping on it which by the VIN is correct. Mine is an 80 though so, I can't comment on the wheels as the 80 got the Virgo's. I'd post some pictures of mine if I knew how. Mine is confirmed to be a true 100% correct GT by the VIN via the local dealer and Volvo. There are so many wrongs on the GT I'm not sure if it is real or not. Decoding the VIN would be the only way to know for sure.

Here's an '80 242 GT as taken from a New Hampshire Craigslist listing. List one has the interior orange striping, etc.. There are also some additional pictures in a Photobucket link inside the listing. Unfortunately, this one needs a lot of work. But is does still have the Virgos...

I bought a 1979 242GT brand new when I was a young feller. Great car. That one doesn't remind me of it though. Wrong interior, wrong outside mirrors, headlight doors are black, missing grille ( but correct driving lights) no "skirt" type front air dam. The steering wheel, and the change tray on the top of the console, were both dealer available options at the time.
VIN and the strut bars will help to prove it, because I'm not sure it's real.

I had a 1979 242 GT, a grey market import from Holland.
You know hhwhut? The 242 GT is KICK ASS!!!!!!!!
The 242 GT is SO KICK ASS even the supremely honorable General Colin Powell (retired) owned a 242 GT and drove it to work at the Pentagon daily!
General Colin Powell for president. I hope.
I'll say again, the 242 GT is KICK ASS!!!!!

I am with you 100%! I loved that car. Bit of a story though. I bought a new red 242DL ( Canadian model with a single SU) in April of '79. Red outside, red velour inside, flathood, chrome mirrors, four speed. Thought it was great. Six months later I went to the dealership I bought it from, and the salesman let me take a '79 GT for a spin. I traded the DL on the spot - I got what I paid for it on the trade. What could I do? Drove the hell out of it - made 118mph after about three minutes at full power.
Of course about three weeks after I bought the '79, the black Halifax Edition '80 242GT's came out, and the dealer had one of them...I should have waited....
All my photos from that time are on Kodachrome and I need to get them digitized and post them here. Folks won't believe it otherwise.
Powell also had a 122S, which was my first car.
And how did you know my nickname? I was called that in university, about thirty five years ago....You must be psychic, as well as having good taste in cars!
Rhys
