Heated side mirrors 200 1992

Hello All,

I just picked up a 92 245 from my brother in law. While I was at a local pik n pull the other day I saw a 92 244 in the yard. I had the heated mirrors which I thought would be a cool addition to mine. I bought the two mirrors and the switch that goes on the center console ( above the HVAC controls). I have done some looking around here, but these seem to be power mirrors as well. The donor car didn't have the armrest/ e-brake portion still on it and according to my research, that would be the locale for the power mirrors...

Will these still work or am I S.O.L.?

Is the power mirror switch made of unobtainium, anyone have an extra out there?

I understand that this is a fairly rare option, and living in BuffaloNY, it would be a great addition to the car. The car is rust free from Florida, so I don't intend to drive it in the winter, but it would be still nice to have for fall & spring.

Thanks in advance for any advice!!

The heated part of the mirrors work independently of the remote control part, so even without the switches you'll be good to go. Go back and get the harness, it'll make life easier. btdt

OK... I was wondering if the heated part was seperate, it kinda looked that way. I will go back and snag the rest of the harness, I was hoping for pre-wired. Me and the wife are both the same height,so once we get the mirrors installed and adjusted to our liking, I really don't think there will be much need to re-adjust them.
What is a fair price for a set of power mirror switches? And are there any relays involved? I grabbed a handful I found in the center of the dash... maybe someone knows what they're for?
It would be nice to complete the mod, just not necessary at this time.

      Thanks again!

        hello
the harness has a relay for timing the heat feature.
the relays in the center of dash are for o.d. and door locks.
careful on power mirror switches. most dont work. i guarentee the ones i sell for 33.00$ shipped for two.
also most old 240 power mirrors dont heat any more as the heating element wires go bad. if yours dont work carefully very carefully with two small pliers pointy nose remove and re-install the electrical connector behind the mirror to break up the grud and give better connection.
        good luck
        Mike

Thanks, I will keep that offer in mind.

Are there any other parts you guys would recommend grabbing off the donor car before its crushed? Any typical fail items or hard to find pieces? 240's are starting to get scarce up here in the rustbelt so I figure I had better grab what I can while I can!

          Thanks to all again!

Don't know what else you maybe an AMM,starter, taillights. Also don't forget the little stuff for the mirrors like the small triangle piece in the corner of the window, the rubber plug/grommet.The relay is white # 1324675.

Yeah, I'm gonna grab the triangles and the plugs when I go back for the rest of the wiring harness.
Where do the power mirror switches actually mount?
Looking at my car I see two unused block off plates I would assume are for the seat heaters if so opted?
Yet I have read that they go somewhere in the middle by the E-brake,just cannot seem to see where...

You will need to drill 2 holes on the front face of the console. The switches will be in between the e-brake handle.Drill slowly and carefully, don't crack anything.

The harness for heated part should have a relay plugged into it somewhere. So don't forget that part too.If the heated mirror switch is still in the dash, trace it back from there. At some point it will split left and right as you look at the dash.Left towards the fuse box and right towards the glove box for the relay.Did you cut the wires to remove the mirrors? I know it is faster this way.It is a PIA to remove the plug thru the door rubber boots. If you did cut it go back pull the rest of the harness thru the door boots and trace it back under the dash, down the sides of the center dash, under the carpet[both sides of tunnel]and back to where the center console is/was.It will be harder to remove the harness from the drivers side.Fuse panel out, black felt covering, rip it out. Then try to find the right bundle for the mirror and carefully guide it thru the boots, into the car, thru the back side where the fuse panel is,etc.I've done it.Lots of work for little reward.

I had to snip the wires onthe drivers side beacuse the car had been hit on that door and it wasn't going to open. I retrieved the rest of the wiring on both sides up to the big connectors under the dash. When I go back I will grab the rest of the harness. Anybody know what is the number for that relay. I have a handful, just not sure which is which.

The mirror adjusting switches for '92-'93 are different internally from the ones used in the turbos and earlier GLTs etc. Be SURE you get ones for later cars or that you can return them if they don't work.

Also return and get the harness as Mike says, unlike so many American cars Volvo didn't pre-wire for much of anything.

Way back when I got some heated/power mirrors from a Volvo only junkyard, they didn't have the switches and I spent $45/each for them from Volvo after trying for quite a while to make the older switches work.

    hello
you need to go back and get complete wiring harness. it takes about one half to one hour to remove. also grab the switch to activate the heated mirrors.
i have some mirror switches i can sell if you get all the other parts. im told the switches are NLA from volvo. consider a relocation of the switches as most have been filled with water, soda, coffee, ect in their present location they catch liquid that is spilled over time.
    good luck
    Mike

I went back and got the rest of the harness yesterday. Unfortunately, someone snipped off one of the female ends where the mirror switch would plug in. Must have been the same guy who robbed the e-brake console. I also retrieved the triangle block off pieces, so my parts list is mostly complete at this time. Just switches missing!
I also grabbed the AMM and whatever other relays I found.

The donor car also had a good set of sunvisors, so I snagged them as well. I was surprised to find out that the sedan and wagon visors are different and do not interchange!! Of all the things Volvo didn't seem to change, Visors? Really??

Anyone need a decent set of visors for a 92 sedan?!?!

Thanks to all for your help. I will do the swap sometime this summer after I have sourced the missing switches.
